WHY ARE WE EXPANDING OUR FACILITIES NOW?
This is the fundamental question of this campaign. The short answer to this question is - to bless the generations! Implementing this first phase of our Master Plan has tremendous potential to transform the ministry landscape of our church. What we have planned will impact every generation in our church and many generations to come. We are responding to the demanding needs of a growing and diverse congregation. The leadership of our church is in agreement. It is time to address the practical demands of our current ministries and prepare for the future. We are proposing a comprehensive solution for both our current and our anticipated ministry needs.
WHAT PLANNING AND THOUGHT HAS GONE INTO THIS EFFORT?
The FBCA lay and ministerial leadership and the Master Planning Committee have been diligently assessing our ministries and programs for many years. Most recently the committee and church staff have been working with Beck Architects to finalize design plans and cost estimates. We have shared our history, vision, ministries and culture of FBCA. We have reviewed growth patterns, current constraints and expected future demands to develop an appropriate and cost-effective plan to address our ministry needs.
HOW WILL THE NEW FACILITIES ENHANCE OUR MINISTRIES?
We are a multi-generational church with many diverse ministries, committed to preschoolers, children, youth and adults as well as community outreach and global missions. Our facilities are used for worship, discipleship, Christian education, mission training, fellowship and more. As already described in this book, the planned renovations and the new construction will address a wide array of ministry needs. Creating more flexibility in our sanctuary, secure educational space for our children, more accessible educational space for our 2nd Half ministry and improving the ministries of Mission Arlington—all are a part of this holistic project.
WILL THIS PROJECT AFFECT OUR COMMITMENT
TO COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND MISSIONS?
Yes, for the better! Believing that FBCA’s mission is both local and global, and that God has uniquely equipped our church to send and support workers to reach the world for Christ, we firmly believe God will use our faithfulness to advance His Kingdom. We trust God will use our new facilities to draw more people to our fellowship and thus multiply His work in Arlington and around the world.
ARE WE CONFIDENT THIS IS GOD’S PLAN FOR FIRST BAPTIST?
Yes, we are confident God is leading FBCA as we trust Him on our journey of faith. We will count on His faithfulness to direct our paths. Today, in the heart of a thriving downtown community, FBCA has greater visibility and accessibility than ever before, and that visibility will only increase. We are committed to the unique call God has given us to fulfill the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. We trust He will continue to faithfully lead us.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE FBCA EXPANSION PROJECT?
Our preliminary estimate of the total project cost is $18 million to $19 million. This includes the architects’ and engineers’ work, site development, and the actual building projects (buildings, landscaping, parking, furnishings, equipment, etc.). With approximately $1 million in cash available to apply toward the project, we have established a fundraising goal of $17.5 million.
CAN WE RAISE SUFFICIENT FUNDS?
Yes, by God’s provision through our generosity. The Blessing the Generations Campaign fundraising goal is $17.5 million, through three-year giving commitments from all the families at FBCA. We decided to seek the wisdom of an experienced church consultant, Generis, who has helped us analyze our giving history and capacity. This is a large goal, but our FBCA Family has always been willing to give to the eternal work of God. We are asking our church family to give sacrificially above and beyond our normal giving to bless future generations through these new facilities. Please take a look at the giving chart in this book to see how together we can achieve our goal.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION?
Approximately 2 ½ to 3 years. We expect the renovation of the sanctuary to begin this summer and last approximately 6 months. We plan to hold Sunday worship services in Fellowship Hall and in the gym while the sanctuary is unavailable. The Mission Arlington distribution center can be constructed at the same time as the sanctuary renovation. The preschool and children’s building construction could then begin in the spring of 2017, lasting approximately 15-18 months, followed by the renovation of the first floor in the latter half of 2018.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN?
A capital stewardship campaign is a journey of faith and sacrifice, and an opportunity for spiritual growth. We can expect trials of many kinds, for we know our confidence remains in God and in his blessings. In Hebrews 11:13, we learn that living by faith is a lifetime of adventure. We may not see all of the fruit of our faith in this lifetime. But, the generations who follow us will be blessed by our faithfulness.
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE BLESSING THE GENERATIONS CAMPAIGN?
Pray! Pray for God’s continued blessings on our church and provision for our ministries and missions. Pray for wisdom and discernment from our leaders as they make decisions on behalf of our church. Pray for each other and for ourselves, for unity in spirit, purpose and sacrifice, and that God will lead each of us through a meaningful journey of spiritual growth.
Encourage each other! We will all make sacrifices to support this endeavor, and we will all endure inconveniences during the construction period. Let’s all encourage each other in generosity and patience, and enjoy the sacrifices and inconveniences together. Imagine the stories we will have to tell in the future!
Give! It will take generous, sacrificial gifts from all of us to fund these projects. God only asks that we give from what we have. Prayerfully ask God to show you what He wants you to give, and then trust Him to provide.
WHAT ABOUT OUR REGULAR BUDGET?
Our annual operating budget remains unaffected by this campaign. We will continue to give faithfully, cheerfully and obediently to the work of God through the core ministries of our church. Our giving to the Blessing the Generations Campaign is over and above our regular giving to our budget.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE WAYS THAT I CAN GIVE?
Gifts to this campaign can be made in the form of cash, online giving or non-cash gifts such as stock or distributions from IRA accounts. If you desire to give in the form of non-cash assets, please contact our Associate Pastor of Administration, Dr. Terry Bertrand, to discuss how these assets can be contributed. You can see more information in the How to Give section of this book.
WILL THE FBCA CULTURE CHANGE?
Absolutely not. We are on a faith journey, and we will continue to follow God wherever He leads. The mission of FBCA is to “Glorify God by Following The Jesus Way.” This focus will continue as we strive to share the good news of Jesus with Arlington and the DFW area. Our local mission outreach through Mission Arlington will remain vibrant, and we hope to continue expanding our global mission outreach.
