Today’s Scripture: Psalm 14
By: Andy Milliorn
There is just no way to sugarcoat it; Psalm 14 paints a pretty depressing and bleak picture. David begins this Psalm by describing foolish men who have turned their backs on God. From heaven, God looks down in search of anyone seeking Him, but all have turned away. Not only are they not seeking God, they are actively pursuing their own evil desires.
Even today, thousands of years later, we can relate. The news is full of stories about people who have turned their backs on God. We scroll through our social media feeds and find an abundance of fools. All over the world, the acts of evil men result in the persecution of the righteous.
However, even as dark as the world can sometimes seem, there is hope! David proclaims that God is the refuge of His people. Just as He delivered His people out of Egypt through the Red Sea, God continues to deliver His people through His son, Jesus. The Message says it best in verse 7, “Is there anyone around to save Israel? Yes. God is around; God turns life around.” Indeed, He does.
Today, my prayer is that you would find refuge in God. And please join me in praying for the persecuted church, and that they will find refuge in Him.
