Today’s Scripture: Psalm 48
By: David McDurham
This passage reminds us that God is our guide and our Protector. Even when kings join forces and advance their armies against Him, He is not outmatched. God makes us secure forever. What a comfort!
What is assailing you in life, right now? Relationship problems, financial struggles, and the simple hectic pace of our lives can often seem like a team of armies against us. It’s easy to lose heart and become overwhelmed or to simply take our eyes off God. Either way, the result is we aren’t in communion with God and strengthened by the gifts He gives us. We lose the joy He gives us by focusing on the wrong things.
There is a solution – to meditate on God’s unfailing love. Right now, my daughter is in elementary school and recently had a speech competition. She had to memorize and recite a poem in front of classmates and a panel of judges. In order to learn her poem well, she had to practice often. Through constant repetition, she learned her poem. It became natural to her.
We are called to do the same. The passage talks about meditating on God’s unfailing love. To repeat the things he has done and to share them with others serves as a reminder to us that He is with us in the storm. Just like my daughter and her poem, we have to constantly remind ourselves of God’s unfailing love.
What are the armies facing you now? List the things that overwhelm you and rob your joy currently?
Now flip the coin: write of the things God has done. What are the reminders in your life that God is with you? Share them with someone if only to remind yourself that God is faithful and present with you.
