Today’s Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-34
By: Brian Sepulveda
This passage begins with testimony of the actual, true, and factual resurrection of Jesus Christ…which, as this passage further explains, is of utmost importance for those who believe in the Gospel. The Gospel is this…that Christ died for our sins, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and then he physically appeared to many. He appeared to Cephas, the 12 disciples, and a crowd of 500, many of whom were still alive at the time Paul was writing this. Jesus appeared also to James and all the apostles and to Paul himself as the next generation of believers.
He warns of those who may have a belief in Christ but might not believe in actual resurrection. That kind of faith is futile, for whoever fails to believe in the resurrection of the dead fails to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, he warns to be careful with whom we associate because we could be led astray from the truth of God’s word, waiver in our faith, and continue in our sin of disbelief. But Christ, in fact, has been raised from the dead…and on that truth, we can find comfort and peace.
Reflecting on this passage, we find perfect and lasting hope in Christ and his resurrection. Praise God that he loves you enough to send his Son as the full revelation of God, who died on the cross in your place as payment for your sins, who God raised him from the dead, and who is seated at God’s right hand ready to return one day. That is God’s plan to bring you to your heavenly home for all eternity, so long as you believe in Him. This is the beautiful and glorious message of the Gospel!
