Today’s Scripture: Ephesians 4:17-5:2
By: Mason Williams
This passage begins with a strong admonition by Paul, imploring believers not to follow in the behaviors and traditions of the “Gentiles” (unbelievers) which leads to a desensitized and potentially to an impure lifestyle. In this word of encouragement, Paul clearly defines the way we should not live.
Paul goes on to challenge us to be pure and righteous in our new life found only in Jesus Christ, putting away our old habits and worldly corruption. We should not pursue thoughts or actions that would be damaging to the Body of Christ, such as lying or acting out of anger. But rather, we should put away our habitual sins and practice temperance and compassion. Most importantly, we are to follow the example of our heavenly Father who walks in love and forgiveness so that we may share a similar example to those around us.
As you go throughout your day, reflect on how you can “walk in the way of love” (Ephesians 5:2) and how you can put Paul’s instruction into action.
