Today’s Scripture: Ephesians 4:1-16
By: David Butts
In our world today, it may be difficult to find much unity. It seems that we may be quick to dismiss others if they have a different opinion than our own. This is not only true in our world but evident among Christians as well. Paul addresses this issue in the letter to the Ephesians. And his teachings have much relevance for us today.
Unity does not just happen; we must work at it. Instead of focusing on how we are different, Paul looks at what unites us: one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God. The Holy Spirit leads, but we must be willing to be led, to do our part to keep the peace.
God has given each one of us abilities that can strengthen the whole body. We are not in competition with one another. Our unique gifts from God in no way diminishes someone else’s unique gift from God. Our gifts work together to strengthen the whole body of Christ.
The Holy Spirit has given each of us special gifts to be used to build up the church. However, it is up to you to use the gifts that have been given to you. Are you looking for opportunities to use your gifts to serve? Seek out ways you can join others in our church and our community to work together to express the fullness of Christ. We can accomplish so much more together for the good of the Body than any one of us can do alone.
