This continues to be a very challenging and unsettled time for many of us. At First Baptist Church, in addition to the ongoing disruption of Covid, we have been out of our main facilities for almost 18 months. Planned construction and February freeze damage combined to shut down our main building. While we have resumed our Sunday morning worship services, we have not been able to host most of our Bible study groups in person for a very long time.
Hopefully, we will receive our “Certificate of Occupancy” from the city soon on the renovated space. At that point, we will begin to deep clean and prepare those rooms for various meetings and events. Due to supply chain issues, much of the new furniture for that space is on back order. In the meantime, we will do the best we can with what we have available.
All that is to say… we are eager and excited to relaunch our Special Needs Ministry as soon as possible! To that end, we want to host a gathering of interested parties next Wednesday, September 29th at 6:30pm in Wade Building Suite 120.
Diane Lane is a long time FBCA member who recently retired as the Special Needs Specialist for Texas Baptists. Diane has graciously agreed to help give oversight to our church’s Special Needs reorganization efforts. I’m grateful for her passion, expertise, and willingness to assist us in this effort.
At this meeting, we will talk about the purpose of the Special Needs ministry, available resources, volunteer leader candidates, and a realistic time table for reopening. NOTE: For everyone’s safety, we require a background check for all volunteers in the Special Needs Ministry. We also strongly encourage all participants to wear a mask (at least for now).
We hope you will be able to join us next Wednesday evening for this informal interest meeting.
