Lost and Found
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
Context of these parables is the accusatory tone of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day.
The themes in these parables are: lost, found and joy.
Various types of “lostness” in these parables of Jesus:
Sheep get lost because of natural tendencies
Coin is lost because of actions of others
Sons are lost because of their own volition
Various images of God:
Diligence of a shepherd
Thoroughness of a woman
Love of a father
There is great joy both in finding and in being found!
We can’t drive prodigals home – they are drawn home.
