Making Himself Known

Making Himself Known
. . . through His World
. . . through His Word
. . . through The Word
. . . through the Church

TEXT: Psalm 145:3

Advent is the season of preparation, anticipation and celebration!

The Doctrine of Revelation

Revelation – God’s activity of self-disclosure

General Revelation – God reveals Himself generally to all of humanity through creation, history, His image, etc.

Special Revelation – God reveals Himself specifically through encounters with Him (prophets, angels, etc.), His Word, Jesus Christ and His Spirit.

Knowledge of God – God offers His people an opportunity to know Him.

Fear of the Lord – The authoritative revelation of God to His people that leads to wisdom.

Summary Truth: We cannot know God unless He reveals Himself to us. We can’t “discover” God through our own efforts.

Psalm 145:3

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable. (ESV)
