Shalom…

LaVon and I hadn’t been married very long when two of my friends came by to pick me up one night for us to go out frog gigging. One of the guys had a small boat, and we knew a great spot several miles from where we lived where we had gone before. As you may or may not know, you paddle very quietly towards the sound of the croaking frogs…pretty simple. Then, gig ‘em! We had gotten several, and one of the guys had told us that he would be serving up frog legs at his house the next night…couldn’t wait!  You understand, we’re miles away from any kind of light…it’s pitch black. I was sitting in the back of the boat, and by the light of the moon, I thought I could make out something in the water beside the boat. I was about to try to get closer to see it when one of the guys shined his light on 2 water moccasins swimming about 6 inches from our boat! Time for the hair on the back of your neck to stand straight up!! We paddled pretty quick to move from that spot. It’s just like we read this week from John 1, “The light shines in the darkness, and darkness did not overcome it.” If there’s ever been a graphic example of this, it was found that night in the back of that boat…Satan is the darkness, and what better description of him do we have than those snakes swimming right alongside our boat that night. They were very content doing that until the light was shining on them, and they quickly moved away. It’s the sin in our lives that is very comfortable until the Light shines on it and exposed it. Allow that same Light to shine into your life through prayers of confession. Darkness can never overcome the Light! Amen…
