Sowing the Seeds among the Nations
Jesus commanded us to make disciples of all the peoples of the world. This is a huge task. Let me remind you of both the immensity and the complexity of this responsibility:
-6.8 billion people on planet earth -6,912 languages spoken -16,453 People Groups -6,853 Unreached People Groups -2.67 billion unreached people -2,251 languages without any portion of the Bible translated Are you overwhelmed by these numbers? Over 2.5 billion people have little or no access to the Gospel. Does this bother you?
I remember where I was when the press of the unreached peoples of the world became a burden for me personally. I was standing on a busy street corner in Fez, Morocco. I had spent several days in that ancient city with an international team comprised of folks from across the world. Our team had dinner the evening before with a worker who had lived in Fez for about 10 years. He shared with us that there were only 30 known believers in this city of over 1 million people.
I stood on that street corner and looked in every direction. Cars buzzed by. Men were out in the outdoor cafes enjoying fellowship and hot tea. Hundreds and hundreds of people were passing by in all directions. I remember thinking, “As far as I can see – I am the only follower of Jesus in this huge number of people.”
As that truth sank in – I remember the feeling of absolute helplessness. “Where do I start?” I thought. The press of the lostness of the people was visceral. I’ll never forget it. I hope I don’t.
Has it hit you yet?
Somehow – we must do our part. The Great Commission is not the Great Suggestion!
So – let’s keep praying, giving, going and sending as we seek to sow the seeds of the Gospel among the nations of the world.
